My Leadership Background

Leadership did not come natural to me; but rather commanded of me by my own ambitions; and a critical component to existing with interdependance.

(2002 - 2008) — In the Army, my ambition was to excel in rank; inevitablly that put me at the gateway between an E-4 and an E-5 (a Non Comissioned Officer). The difference: WLC, leadership training, a promotion pack, and a promotion board. This process took place during an 18 month deployment in Iraq (2006-2007) for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom under the 82nd, 260th CSB and the 1016th QM CO.

(2008 - 2018) — In business (in the civilian world), leadership "style" became relevant (or rather discovered) through my lack of success to scale my company past myself and my own set(s) of skills. With some great mentorship, I was able to learn to be an influencer and to communicate with the goal of being understood. I learned to motivate with positive energy ... to align focus on a common goal, and to inspire through authenticity, and approachable without any fear of intemidation and most importantly, I learned I must lead by example. The humility etched into my email signature "Chief Bottle Washer" as a continious reminder what the NCO Creed stands for.

Challenged by being the "Subject Matter Expert", I had to also learn to work on my business, not in my business.

Over the last 10 years of owning my own software development shop and marketing agency, I have been honored to work with many of the brands below, each presenting unique challenges: Technical challanges, operational challenges, personality challenges and financial/budget challenges.

But I have been blessed to work with a great deal of SMB (Small & Midsize Business) customers who created, in me, a strong and lasting foundation. The foundation created, with 100% business-to-business referral and no advertising, allowed to reach organizations like SAME (Scociety of American Military Engineers), AIA (American Institute of Archetechs), Snowball Express, Cafe Momentum, AHA (American Heart Association) — whose board members gave witness, opening doors to many of the great companies and brands above.

Early Years

My early years were critical in definging who I was and who I was to become. I was born an only child and grew up in a small town (Omak, WA), to a loving but far-from-wealthy family. Like most only children, my parents provided me with everything that I needed. Which didn't include brand name clothes, but did include, by example, first hand experience to growing wealth and posession, as my father was an entrepenuer, a mechanic. The best in town in fact (with slight bias). My father was my example of Drive, and what it meant to be a man. And my mother, like Mother Theresa, how to be kind, forgiving, and a hard worker.

From Desire to Design

Facinated and drawn to was the glowing green screen of my father's Apple 2e. Needless to say, anything labeled "Do Not Touch" drew my attention at the age of 4. So facinated and that after many failed attempts to have my keystrokes embraced by my PC-Hobbiest Father inspired him to get me one of my own. I received an Amiga where a digital canvas allowed me to create whatever I could imagine.

From Design to Engineer

I began reverse engineering at 12, war dialing to find guidance to unlock ShopKey on a Hewlet Packard x486. My first crackme was written to circumvent bad license keeping habits for ShopKey sold out of the back of a SnapOn Truck to replace a large paper library of Mitchel Books. Understanding the concept of Base 2 (binary) and Base 16 (hexidicimal) was so profound to me and became as natural as Base 10. And today, allows me to converse and feel comfortable with technical experts 10 years older than me.

A Walk Down the Dark Side

A concept was born: the fact that I could create or do anything that I wanted behind a computer screen. As soon as I became connected to the World Wide Web, through a 28.8K baud modem (internet took a while to get to my small town, but I was war-dialing with a 14.4 external serial modem).

By 14, I was a frequenter on a IRC and members of "underground" organizations like {TBSG} (The Bandit's Software Group) and CORE (a well known reverse engineering group). IRC, at the time, was a world wide chat comparible to today's Dark Net; where I learned how to pirate a new kind of WAV file, known as an MP3 file, to be burnt by my self-bought 1x CD burner when DISCs were still 650MB.

I also learned the art of mIRC Scripting and coding in C/C++ to deliver payloads (exploits) to the Novel Netware systems controlling our enrie school district. Compromising every school node, installing Back Orfice (A popular Trojan Horse of the time), gave me a sense of power and authority ... which was well monitized, with the Macromedia Photoshop Drivers License Templates, CDs and pre-release VHS tapes made with a TV Encoder, as well as DishNET Satellite Access cards encoded to receive all channels including PPV being broadcast to the earth.

Monitization of skills consisted in other ways as I maintained a barely passing GPA in HighSchool, while doing peer's work. Even renting out my fully programmed TI-86+ calculator programmed to break down solutions while showing all steps of complexity reduction.

Slapped Into The Light

Word got around of my super powers got around. Combined with the terrifying fact that all grades were moving to computer, my Network Account at school was frozen, based on "suspecious files", and an "expert" from Seattle was summoned (at a very high rate), to determine the contents of the files. The result: Undetermined. So, Malitious Mischief was applied (as a felony due to the cost of the expert).

With enough community sentiment from the many organizations I was a part of (scouts, little league, and several after-school programs), I was able to qualify for "Juvinile Divisions". Unable to tough a computer my Senior Year, I spent hundreds of hours of community service working with Brent Busching (the network administrator).
